ANDRES ROA

Professional Drummer | Educator | Recording Artist

My journey from the Music City of Colombia to Music City — Nashville, TN.

My name is Andres Roa. I am a Professional Drummer, Recording Artist and Music Educator. I am originally from Ibague, Tolima in Colombia which is commonly known as the “Musical City of Colombia”.

I studied music theory at Tolima Conservatory of Music and then in Bogota as a major in Music Performance and Drum Set at Javeriana University. When I moved to the United States to pursue my dream of becoming a professional musician, I studied under a scholarship at Miami-Dade College and was a featured musician in the Jazz Ensembles and African Percussion Ensembles.

I have vast experience as a performer and have been a freelance drum set player for twenty-four years. While in South Florida, I had the pleasure of working with a wide variety of established artists and bands of all types and genres.

Aside from playing and recording, I have a deep passion for education. My mission as an instructor is not only to teach students the necessary fundamentals to become better players but to help my students develop a musical vocabulary and nurture the skills that will help them excel in music and in life.

After traveling to many different cities across the U.S, I fell in love with the hills, music-scene and Southern hospitality of Tennessee. (The hot chicken, bbq, craft beer & bourbon ain’t bad, either.) In early 2021, I decided to relocate. I now call Music City my home. I look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

“My music is the spiritual expression of what I am—my faith, my knowledge, my being. When you begin to see the possibilities of music, you desire to do something really good for people, to help humanity free itself from its hangups. I want to speak to their souls.”

–John Coltrane
